In spite of his rebellious personality expressed in his stirring works,
he was asked to direct the permanent drama group of the University of Buenos
Aires (department of Letters and Philosophy). He started the cycle “ With the Classics” ( Calderon, Moliere,
Shakespeare y Goldoni). He was a lecturer at universities for two years. He had a new theatre built, “Theatre Workshop”, on Corrientes Avenue
in the city of Bs.As., for a hundred spectators. A space for “ drama
research” was created attended by hundred of students every year. Democracy came to stay in Argentina and Dr. Raul Alfonsin was elected by the popular vote. GBH wrote and directed “ The story of the doll that wanted to be a
man” (La historia del muñeco que quiso ser hombre), an expressionist piece of
work that was praised several times. It is one of his most well known plays
performed worldwide. For seven years he directed drama work at the School of Engineering
participating in festivals, especially the ENTU (National Encounter of
University Theatre), once again his talent was recognised. He entered Garcia Lorca’s world and vision and as a consequence, he set
on scene “La casa de Bernarda Alba”, which put him in contact with Isabel
Garcia Lorca and Manolo Montesino, sister and nephew of the poet, who were
present at the debut. Isabel recommended GBH to the Spanish Embassy so that he
would design and direct the events on the 50th Death Anniversary of
the poet. That was considered one of the most important tributes in
the world. Twenty three casts participated, representing each
province Following García Lorca, GBH dedicated himself to the versions of
“Bodas de Sangre”, “ Mariana Pineda”, “ La zapatera prodigiosa”,
dancing and poetry recitals with the Hispania Ballet of Graciela Rios Saiz. As a new turning point in his profession, this drama man, started to
write and direct the television cycle “Somos porque fuimos” for the “ATC
Specials” Channel 7 incorporating
a new style in his playscript: The grotesque short farce. At the end of the decade and due to the commemoration of the hundred
years of the immigration arrival, he wrote and directed “Los Argentinos
descendemos de…los barcos”, the scenery was designed by the most famous
expressionist painter, Carlos Regazzoni. |
