Argentina had his second constitutional president: Dr.Carlos Menem, years later he would reform the constitution and be reelected. GBH returned to the Lorquian goblin, writing “Los cuernos de
Federico” and directing it in the Bretchtian style. It was on for about
three years. This new production is filled with puppets, masks, humour and, of
course, the Andalusian guitar. In 1992, while some Argentines celebrated the fifth century of the
discovery of America, with allegoric plays, others took the
indigenous themes to generate drama work. However, GBH took a short cut,
focusing on the immigrants that had come to the country in 1890. He created and
protagonised “Los argentinos descendemos de los…barcos II” and the debut
was in the main hall of the Cervantes National Theatre. On that same occasion, the drama foundation in Caminito honoured GBH on
the 30th year of his
dedication to the theatre. The Major Hall was crowded with students, assistants,
and friends that had followed the Drama teacher for a long time. Doubtless this
was the most moving popular expression he had received. For 7 years he successfully presented performances in different parts of
the country concentrating specially on the grotesque musical short farce.
Specially relevant in his career was his participation in the following events:
the Mega event America 92; the
International Festival of La Havana, Cuba; the Week of Bs.As.; and finally he
opened the Official Season at the St.Martin’s Cultural Center. In the following year he was invited to the International Theatre
Festival of Santiago de Cuba “ Fiesta del Fuego”. On that occasion, with
“Los cuernos de Federico” he
honoured once more García Lorca
and Bertold Bretch, on their 100th
birth date. One year later he returned to La Havana to conduct a Seminary on the
theatre of the absurd for authors, directors, actors and theatre instructors. He did a lot of travelling around Spain, where he got in touch with
theatre people. In his search for his ancestry he reached
Beirut and Lebanon. He created “Juventud, divino tesoro” a play aimed at adolescents, presented by the theatrical Group “ Flor de Ceibo” of Garre (province of Bs.As.), and directed by Elena Mori, at the Mar del Plata Auditorium. In the frame of “Torneos Juveniles Bonaerenses de 1999” the play received the First Award and Gold Medal and the theatrical group travelled to Europe. |
